Number of animal species react to the natural phenomenon of fire, but only humans have learnt to control it and to make it at will. If fire is not handled carefully then it is going to be one of the major threats to the human life. Not only does fire cause casualties but also at times produces a silent killer, Carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide which is a by-product of combustion, is not only produced during fires, but also in industries, charcoal grills, portable generators and in rooms with a poor ventilation and a fire place. Additionally, CO is also emitted by cars. If the emission of carbon-monoxide in the atmosphere is not controlled, it can also affect the amount of greenhouse gases, which are linked with the climate change and the global warming. Moreover, the inhalation of CO can be fatal which calls for an immediate and effective solution and hence, in order to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, we have come up with this idea as an attempt to save numerable precious lives.
CO Absorber is a device which aims at curbing CO emission. So, we have designed a device that absorbs harmful CO and it prevents the formation of carboxyhaemoglobin, Haemoglobin –type C present in Red Blood Cells (RBCs) has more affinity towards carbon monoxide than oxygen. If inhaled it forms a stable compound called carboxyhaemoglobin hindering the oxygen supply to the blood cells. The device uses the affinity of ammoniacal cuprous chloride solution for CO and the solubility of carbon monoxide in ammoniacal cuprous chloride solution as an advantage to curb its emission. This device can be made by using 304 Stainless steel which is cheap, durable and corrosion resistive.
The CO Absorber uses an IOT device and programming to avoid the need of turning the machine on and off during emergencies. However, in case of malfunctioning, there is a manual switch to turn it on and off.
Therefore, our device i.e., CO absorber is eco-friendly, environmentally safe and very economical to be used. It ensures the safety of human beings and other species existing on this planet.
