The most common COVID-19 vaccines in India need to be stored in the temperature range of 2-8oC. For elderly or specially abled people, it may be difficult to travel to a centre and thus the vaccines need to be transported to them and the time taken will be approximately 2-3 hours. The current cooling boxes are made of plastic and using ice packs are quite expensive. Our DIY box uses substances that are cost effective and easily available with the same thermal efficiency.
Our model replaces plastic with thermocol, and plain ice packs with frozen brine solution. The total cost per litre of the box is within Rs 100. We hope our model can become a reality in this world, and help those in need.
